A Village Walk

  • Meet: Outside Horsley Community Shop Priory Fields Stroud, England, GL6 0PT United Kingdom (map)

Celebrating our footpaths!

Come together for a village walk to enjoy restored paths and stiles.

A short welcome will be followed by a word from former Stroud District Cllr., Robin Layfield, who supported the Project from the outset.

The walk is 4.7 km in total, and takes about 2 hours.  You can do as much or as little as you please.

Route: From Horsley Shop, the walk links the heart of the village to the hamlets of Boscombe, Nupend, The Street, west Downend, Tickmorend, The Fooks and Rockness, bringing you via east Downend and Washpool back to the Village Centre.  Connecting different parts of the village, the route offers a rich variety of terrain - wooded slopes, rushing streams with fields and flowered meadows shaded by trees.  Open views down to Nailsworth and across the valley to Ruskin Mill woods mark the return route following the stream towards Washpool, then climbing Wormwood Hill back to the The Hog.

Terrain: Mainly footpaths with a few short stretches of  road; two short steep climbs; one long flight of steps and several stiles. Due to the presence of underground springs en- route, plan for muddy bits, even in dry weather.  Good walking shoes or boots; and waterproofs, if rainy, are recommended.

NO DOGS PLEASE ON THIS OCCASION. This is due to the numbers of people expected and the nature of the walk.

Children under 14 must be with an adult.
